In 2000, after a tragic accident nearly took her life at the tender age of four, Qian Hongyan lost both of her legs. But she never lost her spirit.

Despite growing up in a world of poverty, her family in China did the best they could with what they had and tried to give her a life filled with love and support.

To help her with her deal with the amputation of her two legs, her grandfather resorted to using a basketball to substitute for part of her lower body, which gave her a place to rest.

Determined not to let her family’s economic situation hold her back, she was invited to join a swim team in Yunnan, China, for disabled persons called South of the Cloud.

She was eager to learn but because of the placement of her amputation, it was a major challenge for Qian to swim.

By 16, she had begun swimming daily training for the Paralympics.

In the London 2012 qualifying races, she received a bronze medal and didn’t qualify, but nothing would stop this brave girl as she began training again.

By 18, she got a new set of prosthesis at the china Rehabilitation Centre in Beijing and got right back to training.

Her determination paid off, She began winning medals all over the country, and in 2014 she won the 100m Breaststroke At The Yunnan Provincial Paralympic Games.

Qian's story has touched the hearts of many, and she continues to be an inspiration to the world. No matter how hard life is, NEVER GIVE UP!
